Dr. Xingbo Liu is professor and associate chair for research in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department (MAE) at West Virginia University (WVU), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA. He received the B.S. (1992) in Materials Science & Engineering, the M.S. (1995) and the Ph.D. (1999) in Materials Science, all from the University of Science & Technology in Beijing, China. After graduation, he joined WVU in early 2000 as postdoc, and was promoted to Research Assistant Professor (2002), Assistant Professor (2006), Associate Professor (2011), and Full Professor (2014). In 2012, Dr. Liu was appointed as Associate Chair for Research in the MAE Department at WVU. His main research interests are advanced high temperature materials for next generation energy conversion and storage. He holds two granted and three pending U.S. patents, has published more than 80 journal papers, and has given more than 100 presentations at international conferences. Dr. Liu has received numerous awards, such as the R&D 100 Award (2011), the TMS Early Career Faculty Fellow Award (2010), the WVU CEMR Researcher of the Year (2015, 2012), Outstanding Researcher Awards (2015, 2011, 2009, 2008), New Researcher of the Year (2015), among others. In 2015, Dr. Liu was elected as the Fellow of ASM International.
