Dr. Liyu Li is a scientist and an inventor in clean energy and electrical energy storage fields. In 2012, he co-founded UniEnergy Technologies and currently serves as Chief Technology Officer of the company. Before co-founding UET, he was a chief scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) of the US Department of Energy (DOE). He received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering in 1995. Dr. Li’s major scientific contributions to the electrical energy storage area include: (1) co-invented the Advanced All Vanadium Redox Flow Battery system (US 8,628,880, US 9077011) which is under commercialization process by three US companies including UET; (2) co-invented the Fe-Vanadium Redox Flow Battery system (US 8,771,856) which is under commercialization process by a Canadian company. His efforts in inventing and commercializing the advanced vanadium redox flow battery won him the 2013 Award of Excellence in Technology Transfer by the Federal Laboratory Consortium.
